Two scenarios, two targets
If strong hits send clearly higher velocities but the sound stays weak, look at the plugin, the mixer or the selected articulation. Changing the trigger response would distort a signal that is already usable.
If strong strokes stay bunched near ordinary values, the module is not using enough of the upper MIDI range for your playing.
Test an accent without biasing it
- Select one stable zone.
- Play several comfortable normal strokes.
- Play the same number of clear accents.
- Keep the striking area consistent.
- Compare medians, peaks and how much the groups overlap.
Position matters, especially on pads with a central trigger. Moving across the head can mix up force and location, so repeat the test where you actually play.
The trade-off
A more generous response may give accents more headroom but push normal and soft strokes up as well. That turns D04 into D03 and squeezes all your playing toward the top.
Make small changes documented for your exact module, then retest soft, normal and strong groups. The goal is a clear progression from soft to strong, not 127 at any cost.
