Note with no strike2 min

Why do my electronic drums trigger by themselves?

Plug your kit in

Don’t guess, measure. The kit check is open to everyone and needs no account.

Check my kit

A note that appears with no stroke requested may be a false trigger at rest, an outside vibration or crosstalk from a pad played just before. The first useful step is to record a real period of silence, not to change every input at once.

The eDrumWork diagnostic opens a set window during which no gesture is requested. Every Note On received in it becomes a D11 observation to confirm.

Test true silence

Put the sticks down and touch neither pads nor pedals for the time shown. Because the software knows when the window starts and ends, it can tell an event at rest from the previous instruction.

Repeat the test. A single event may be accidental; the same note returning across several windows is stronger evidence.

Then add one controlled source

In a second phase, strike one other element while leaving the suspect pad untouched. If its note repeatedly follows that source, D07 crosstalk is a better description.

This separates a pad that sounds when everything is still from one that responds only when an identifiable vibration runs through the kit.

If no extra MIDI event arrives but the software still makes a sound, check the routing, MIDI loops or the virtual instrument. Conversely, a very weak note may be inaudible yet present in raw MIDI.

Making an input less receptive can remove triggers at rest but also swallow ghost notes. Stronger vibration rejection may suppress real simultaneous hits. After any change, retest silence, soft strokes and pairs.

eDrumWork can establish that a MIDI note appeared without a requested gesture. It does not name a cable, sensor or unseen physical source.
