My electronic kick triggers twice from one stroke

Don’t guess, measure. The kit check is open to everyone and needs no account.

One pedal stroke can produce two closely spaced Note On events. The second may be hard to hear but shows up in a DAW as an extra kick. Before blaming technique or hardware, establish what the module actually sends.

The eDrumWork MIDI diagnostic links extra events to isolated kick strokes and measures their delay and velocity.

Double trigger or a real second contact?

A rebounding beater can physically hit the head again, and from MIDI alone that looks like an electronic retrigger. Software cannot see the beater move, but it can show whether the event repeats and what timing pattern it follows.

Use your normal foot position and play separated single strokes. Do not use ankle rolls or a double pedal during this first series.

A useful protocol

  1. Play several ordinary strokes about a second apart.
  2. Repeat with controlled strong strokes.
  3. Mark gestures that create more than one event.
  4. Compare the delay and velocity of the second note.
  5. After a change, repeat the isolated test, then play fast as you really would.

If extra events appear only when you play fast, the isolated protocol cannot tell which ones you meant. Do not reject every close event; check for missing notes with D06 as well.

Some modules handle analysis of the initial attack separately from rejection of later contacts. Lengthening the rejection can tame a rebound but swallow a real double stroke. Lengthening the initial analysis may steady the result, at the cost of latency.

Two notes prove the MIDI symptom, not its physical origin. eDrumWork reports the type of symptom observed and the trade-off behind the advice for your module.
