Why does my ride play the wrong bow, edge or bell sound?

Plug your kit in

Don’t guess, measure. The kit check is open to everyone and needs no account.

Check my kit

An electronic ride may offer bow, edge and bell articulations. If hitting one zone consistently sends another zone's note, eDrumWork classifies the mismatch as D08.

The eDrumWork kit diagnostic maps one zone at a time to find out whether the mismatch comes from the module output or only from the plugin mapping.

Check MIDI before audio

A virtual instrument can assign the correct incoming note to the wrong sound. In that case, change the mapping rather than the trigger. If bow and edge already send the same number when the hardware is meant to tell them apart, the confusion is upstream.

Some cymbals or inputs simply do not support every zone. You need to know what the declared kit can do before calling a normal limitation a fault.

Test zones separately

Play several ordinary hits on the bow, then the edge, then the bell. Let the cymbal settle and avoid touching two zones in one stroke. For each series, note the dominant MIDI number, any companion events, the velocity and how consistent it is.

D08 describes zones that are poorly told apart within one element. Two different instruments set to the same note number belong to D12.

A zone balance is a compromise

Making the edge or bell easier to detect can make it show up on a bow hit. Improving one zone often eats into another's margin, so retest every articulation.

Capabilities differ among Roland, Yamaha, Alesis, EFNOTE, Lemon and other ride and module combinations. eDrumWork records what each requested stroke actually sends, without inventing a zone the hardware does not support.
