Practice without relying on the click: silent bars and a fading click
Work on your tempo
The metronome and its silent bars are free, no account needed. The fading click is available on the practice screen, with the coach.
Try the metronomeThe groove holds while the metronome is there, then you lose your place as soon as it drops out. Cutting back the click shows you what happens while it is gone and when it comes back. eDrumWork has two tools for this, and they work differently.
Silent bars follow the cycle you set
In the metronome, set how audible and silent bars alternate. The cycle runs regardless of how you play. Try to keep the pulse through the silence, then listen to where you land when the click comes back.
The standalone metronome is free and needs no account. It does not receive MIDI strikes, so it judges nothing: your ears do the observing. Silent bars are also available on the playing screen.

The fading click follows how steady you are
The fading click is part of the playing screen, with the coach. After a first settling-in phase, it gets quieter when your timing holds and comes back if the tempo drifts. It does not simply mute every other bar.
It needs usable MIDI strikes to observe stability. In a sparse passage, the click may stay at full volume; that does not mean you failed. The option does not judge dynamics and adds nothing to the practice log.
Pick the right help for the job
Silent bars give you a predictable pattern. The fading click adjusts how much you hear based on what it observes. You cannot use both at once on the playing screen; the fading click starts off and is a per-session choice.
Do not confuse a quieter click with a tempo change: progressive and adaptive modes change the tempo itself, not just the click level. Any tempo change brings the fading click back to full volume so you can settle in again.
Start with a familiar groove at a comfortable speed. If coordination already takes all your attention, learn the passage first. For full practice with the coach, see eDrumWork access options.
